Volga Delta and Caspian Sea, Russia/Kazakhstan

A few fires are burning west of a sharp bend in the Volga River in western Russia near the border with Kazakhstan (far right). This MODIS image shows summer vegetation hugging the riverbanks and covering the delta where the river empties into the Caspian Sea.
