Fires around Malawi Lake, in Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania, and Mozambique

This true-color MODIS image, produced from data acquired on September 26, 2001, shows numerous wildfires burning in the southeastern countries of Africa. The countries circling, starting in the top right corner and moving clockwise, are Tanzania, Mozambique, Malawi, and Zambia. At the center of the image is Lake Malawi, which is the 350 mile long lake that houses the largest flock of Cichlids in the world.
