SeaWiFS: Annular Solar Eclipse

On the afternoon of December 14, 2001, the moon's shadow darkened the waters of the North Pacific Ocean as can be seen in this SeaWiFS image collected during the event. Cloud tops are still visible because they are much more reflective than the ocean and because the sun was only partially eclipsed in the area covered by this image.
