The rugged mountains that comprise the Pacific coastline of British Columbia run through the center of this MODIS image from February 15, 2002. The snow-covered Coast Mountains appear much brighter than the peaks on Vancouver Island (southwest of center). At the southeast end of the island, the waters in Juan de Fuca Strait and the Puget Sound appear milky green, possibly from a mixture of sediment and microscopic marine plant life. At lower right, three bright white circles arranged in a triangle mark the location of Mt. Rainier (top), Mt. Adams (lower right), and Mt. St. Helens (lower left).
