On March 15, 2002, in northern China (right) and southern Mongolia (left), a dust storm whipped up sand in the Gobi Desert, giving the entire top portion of the image a pockmarked, or dimpled, appearance. The airborne dust stretched as far south as the Huang He, China9s Yellow River, which can be seen flowing in from bottom left and veering eastward under a thin bank of clouds.
