Fires in Northern Australia

These MODIS images show the progression of fires in Northern Territory and Western Australia in the early dry season of 2002. Since it is early in the dry season, these fires may be part of a prescribed burning program that clears fuels from high-risk areas where later-season fires could be more devastating.
