This Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image from April 16, 2002, shows three southern Africa countries: Namibia (left), Botswana (upper right), and Republic of South Africa (bottom right). Along the Namibia.s coast with the Atlantic Ocean, the cold Benguela Current flows up from the Southern Ocean around Antarctica, and inhibits rainfall, creating the Namib Desert. The Kalahari Desert spans the southern portions of Namibia and Botswana.
