This MODIS image of Western Australia shows a short stretch of Eighty Mile Beach at upper left, and various impermanent salt lakes and rivers that appear white against the reddish terrain of the surrounding desert. The sinuous white line in the center is a string of lakes called the Percival Lakes. To the southeast is the gravel-strewn Gibson Desert, to the southwest, Lake Disappointment.
