This true-color MODIS image from May 7, 2002, shows the Rio de la Plata Estuary in Argentina (lower right) filled with sediment. The source of the sediment isn't hard to see, as the Parana River, which cuts down the center of the image, also appears quite murky. On the southern side of the estuary, a grayish patch marks the location of the city of Buenos Aires. In the high-resolution imagery signs of cultivation are everywhere, with rectangular patterns mixed in the natural vegetation of the Pampas.
