Phytoplankton bloom off Brittany, France

Beneath airplane contrails and clouds, MODIS captured this image of a phytoplankton bloom occurring off Brittany, France (image center) on May 15, 2002. The bloom appears to extend westward as well, and is very bright blue in places.
