The Great Lakes region and Mid-Atlantic United States

This true-color MODIS image from May 22, 2002, shows all five of the Great Lakes of the United States and Canada: (from top left to right) Superior, Michigan, Huron, Erie, and Ontario. The image shows portions of the mid-Atlantic region of the U.S. as well, including Ohio(south of Lake Erie), whose western half is decidedly less spring-looking than its eastern half, heavily forested West Virginia (to Ohio's southeast), and the alternating dark and light bands of Pennsylvania's (northeast of West Virginia) Ridge and Valley Province. To the southeast, MODIS has detected several fires burning (red dots).
