These true- and false-color images from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) show the Amazon River in northern Brazil. The images from June 10, 2002, show the mouth of the Amazon where it empties into the Atlantic Ocean. The images from June 11, 2002, show the more interior portions of the river. The true-color imagery show the heavy sediment (brownish water) at the mouth of the Amazon, while the false-color images show the water as dark blue or black, and more clearly show the path of the river through the region.s dense vegetation. In the false-color images, vegetation is in shades of green and gold.
