A dust storm is carrying dust from Sudan, Africa, out over the Red Sea (right) in this Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer Image from June 30, 2002. In the lower left quadrant of the image, the sinuous path of the Nile can be seen. Dust storms such as this reduce the amount of solar radiation that reaches the surface, and have a cooling effect on the area.
