This true-color image of eastern Antarctica on August 30, 2002, shows the West Ice Shelf at bottom center and the Shakleton Ice Shelf to its east (right). Sea ice in the Davis Sea (a part of the Southern Ocean) is packed against the coast. Clouds cast bluish shadows onto the white surfaces beneath. This image was captured by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Terra satellite.
