Burn scar of the Biscuit Fire, Oregon

These true- and false-color images from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) show the massive burn scar left behind by the Biscuit Fire that burned in Oregon and into northern California in August 2002. In the true-color images from early September, forests appear dark green, and the burn scar appears dark brown. In the false-color images, vegetation appears bright green, and burned areas appear bright reddish-brown. In both images, actively burning fires are marked with red dots.
