Fires in Mongolia

This series of true-color Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) images from September 2002 show the development of scores of fires in Mongolia (bottom) and Russia (top) over the month. The active fires are marked with red dots. At upper right is the southern portion of Lake Baikal.
