South Central Alaska

Multiple snow-covered mountain ranges are on display in the true-color Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image of Alaska from September 21, 2002. At right center edge, the Chugach Mountains line the coast of the Gulf of Alaska, and behind them are the Wrangell Mountains. To the west, those ranges transition into the Alaska Range, home to Mt. McKinley (Denali). The Alaska Range arcs around to the southwest around Cooke Inlet, where it meets up with the Aleutian Range, which trails down into the Bering Sea and becomes Aleutian Islands.
