California and Nevada

This series of true-color Terra and Aqua MODIS images from early October 2002 shows the western coast of the United States. Shown are the states of Oregon, Idaho, California, Nevada, and Arizona, and the Mexican state of Baja California Norte. The Pacific Ocean dominates the left halves of the images, but the northern portion of the Golfo de California is visible as well. MODIS detected a number of fires, marked in red, burning throughout the region, some with visible smoke plumes.
