Southeast United States

In the mountains of western North Carolina (north of center), fall has arrived in the higher elevations of the Appalachians, and the forests have turned brown with the approaching cold. In the Southeast, green still prevails, and in South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida, a few scattered fires are burning. This true-color image was captured by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Terra satellite on November 7, 2002.
