In West Antarctica, Pine Island Bay (along right center edge on Nov. 4; roughly centered in other images) carves deeply into the Walgreen (left) and Eights (right) Coasts. Eights Coasts terminates in the Abbott Ice Shelf, which is sandwiched between the continent and Thurston Island. The Walker Mountains on Thurston Island rise up out of the surrounding ice shelf (center). These images were acquired by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Terra satellite.
