Rich golden browns, emerald greens, and sapphire blues drape this true-color Terra MODIS image of Myanmar (left) and Thailand (right). To the upper right of the image is the Shan Plateau, which appears as a rich, deep golden brown color surrounded by deep green forests and sprinkled with white clouds. Running south through Myanmar is the Irrawaddy River, which empties into the Gulf of the Martaban and the Andaman Sea. The cloudy tan color in the water is sediment deposited by the rivers. Off of Myanmar’s west coast is the Bay of Bengal, and at the top edge of the bay is sediment-filled water from the Mouths of the Ganges, which are in eastern India (not shown) and Bangladesh. This true-color Terra MODIS image was acquired December 4, 2002.
