The Ronne Ice Shelf begins at the base of the Antarctic Peninsula (out of scene at left) and stretches out to meet the Weddell Sea, which is filled with seasonal sea ice in these true-color Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) images from the Terra satellite. In the bottom center of the image, the outline of Berkner Island can be seen, surrounded on the west by Ronne Ice Shelf and on the east by the Filchner Ice Shelf.
