Andaman Islands, India

The Terra MODIS instrument acquired this image of the Andaman Islands in the Indian Ocean on January 23, 2003. This group of islands is part of India, though they are south of the southern tip of Myanmar. The largest island has three names -- North Andaman, Middle Andaman, and South Andaman -- according to its vertical orientation. To the right of South Andaman are a small cluster of islands called (from top to bottom) Ritchie’s Archipelago, Henry Lawrence Island, and Neill Island. To the left of South Andaman is North Sentinel Island, and the large island to the south of South Andaman is Little Andaman.
