Antarctica’s Ross Ice Shelf roughly straddles the 180-degree-longitude line. In recent years large icebergs have been calving off the margin of the shelf, which is a large sheet of ice that hangs out over the continental land mass and floats in the Southern Ocean. This true-color Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image is from the Terra satellite on January 28, 2003.
