Phytoplankton bloom in Gulf of California, Mexico

Between the arid terrain of the Baja California Peninsula (left) and western Mexico (right) a bloom of microscopic marine organisms called phytoplankton colors the waters of the Gulf of California various shades of green. This true-color Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) was captured by the Terra satellite on April 26, 2001.
