Twodays after record snowfalls blanketed the Middle Atlantic and NortheastU.S., life is slowly returning to normal. Final storm totals indicateparts of western Maryland received up to 4 feet of snow, while New YorkCity topped out at just over 25 inches. In the Chesapeake Bay east ofMaryland and Virginia, ice is visible. This MODIS image from Feb. 20,shows the Northeast draped in white. The Great Lakes are visible at upperleft, their shores lined with ice. Lake Erie is almost totally coveredwith ice.
This true-color image was acquired on February 20 by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard the Terra satellite.
