Entering its fifth consecutive year of drought, Utah is now considered the driest state in the U.S. The true-color image acquired over Utah on July 23, 2003, shows a dust storm (tan pixels) originating in the western part of Utah and blowing northeastward over Great Salt Lake. The image from July 14 shows clear skies over the region in the preceding week. These images were captured by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Terra and Aqua satellites.
