Fires across Australian East Coast

Dozens of fires were detected across eastern Australia on September 11, 2003, by Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Aqua satellite. In this image, active fire detections have been marked with red dots. The most intense fires are burning in the Great Dividing Range Mountains, which stretch along the eastern margin of Australia.
