Snow in upstate New York

The season’s first significant snowfall dusted upstate New York on November 14, 2003. The next day was clear enough to allow the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Aqua satellite to capture this true-color image of the region. The white snow contrasts with the dark waters of the slender Finger Lakes on the left edge of the image, making them stand out more than they usually do. Above them is the eastern section of Lake Ontario.
