Dense fog filled the San Joaquin and Sacramento Valleys of California on January 13, 2004. To the west, the Sierra Nevada are coated with snow. When the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) flying on NASA’s Aqua satellite captured this image, it also detected two fires, which have been marked with red dots.
