Ice on the Great Lakes

White sheets of ice float on Lake Huron, top left, and Lake Erie, bottom center. Lake Ontario, right, remains free of ice, though the land around it is in winter’s icy grip. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Terra satellite took this image on February 28, 2004. On the top right are the Canadian provinces Quebec (top) and Ontario (left). The US states shown include, from right to left, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan.
