Fires in Central America

The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Aqua satellite detected numerous fires burning across Central America on April 22, 2004. The fires, marked with red dots, are probably land-use fires, started for agricultural purposes. The scene shows Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula (top) and Belize (right) and Guatemala (left) beneath it. Honduras and El Salvador can be seen in the lower left corner of the image.
