Cloud edge and shadow in southern Africa

The unusually abrupt edge of this cloud front over Botswana (top) and South Africa (bottom) highlights the thick black shadow the clouds have cast over the land. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite observed this scene on June 12, 2004.
