Smoke from Alaskan fires off Greenland

Smoke from wildfires burning in Alaska had stretched all the way across North American to Greenland’s southwestern coast when the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite captured this image on July 15, 2004. The smoke is drifting towards Greenland from two different directions. A thin veil of haze is extending from the mainland to the west, image left. On top, a thick finger of smoke is reaching down Davis Strait from the Arctic.
