A few scattered fires, marked in red, burned in Kansas (top) and Oklahoma (bottom) on July 13, 2004, when the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite captured this image. A few gray spots show where cities are located in these two states. Kansas City sits in the top right corner on the border between Kansas and Missouri, and Oklahoma City is just below center in the middle of Oklahoma. Agricultural fields, which form regular green squares across both states, are clearly visible in the full resolution image.
