Snow across Utah and Arizona

A powerful Alaska storm swept across the southwestern United States in late October 2004, blanketing the mountain ranges with snow. In this Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image, acquired on October 30 by NASA’s Terra satellite, snow covers the highlands of the Colorado Plateau in southern Utah, top center, and the mountains of Arizona, lower center. The snow not only highlights the high points of elevation, it shows the low points as well. The uneven break in the snow in Arizona is formed by the Grand Canyon.
