Dust plume across the Persian Gulf

Streamers of dust blow out of Iran, Iraq, and Kuwait and over the Persian Gulf in this Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image, acquired by NASA’s Terra satellite on May 6, 2005. MODIS also detected a few fires burning in the region. The fires, which have been marked with red dots, may actually be gas flares burning in oil refineries.
