Betsiboka River

The Betsiboka River is located in north-central Madagascar. The river carries reddish-orange silt, turning the water into a myriad of unusual colors. The vast amount of silt is indication of massive erosion from northwestern Madagascar. The silt is deposited into the mouth of the river and into the Bombetoka Bay, where the river terminates.

In this image the river is yellow with shades of green, cyan and midnight blue. Vegetation is green, bare ground is tan and grey.

This Landsat 7 image was acquired April 10, 2003. It is a true color image using ETM+ bands 3, 2 and 1. The Betsiboka River falls on Landsat WRS-2 Path 160 Row 71.
